Dr. Philip Werthman is a primary innovator and researcher in the area of vasectomy reversals, male infertility, and micro-surgical techniques. He is also a prolific author in his field, writing and speaking extensively for Resolve and the American Infertility Association, and appearing regularly in their newsletters as a contributor and featured physician.

Dr. Werthman has edited a textbook on male infertility published by W.B. Saunders, the leading medical publisher, and was the male fertility consultant to the popular book, Staying Fertile Longer. Dr. Werthman and Dr. Rothman have also given a myriad of lectures over the years at international and national fertility society and urology meetings as well as to local and regional physician and patient groups.

Use of Testicular Sperm/ICSI Yields High Pregnancy Rates In Couples Who Failed Multiple IVF Cycles Due To High Levels Of Sperm DNA Fragmentation

Sperm DNA damage (fragmentation) is a known cause of male infertility and has been shown to negatively impact pregnancy outcomes in couples undergoing In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) with Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI). Previous studies have shown that sperm DNA damage may occur after the sperm have exited the testicle and levels of DNA fragmentation are lower in testicular sperm than in ejaculated sperm. The object of this study was to evaluate the results of IVF/ICSI using testicular sperm in couples that failed to achieve pregnancy on prior IVF cycles and had high levels of sperm damage as a cause of their infertility.
