Maybe There IS an “I” in Team And How My Patients Benefit
I recently read a business article which discussed the benefits of keeping teams of people together to produce better business success. In it were illustrated examples from professional basketball teams to high-volume orthopedic surgeons and their loyal staff. All were studied over time and the conclusion drawn was that teams of people who have worked together for significant periods, produce better results and successes in their particular categories of work.
The article got me thinking about my own practice and how fortunate and dedicated I have been over the years in keeping my fantastic team together. From the operating room where I perform vasectomies and vasectomy reversals to my clinic office environment where I consult with and examine patients, I have among the most loyal team members in the male fertility industry. In fact, some of them have been with my practice for more than 20 years.
That comfort, familiarity and experience shines through in the level of service we provide our patients and in many ways, my overall success rates too. I’ve successfully performed thousands of vasectomy and vasectomy reversal procedures on patients all over the world. I’ve developed innovative and widely-used procedures for the treatment of male infertility and I’ve published extensively on various men’s health topics. In many of these career highlights, I haven’t been alone. I have benefitted from membership on a committed and skilled team that has my same passion for and keen focus on delivering the highest caliber of care. My philosophy is to keep valued veteran team members and add to them “fresh blood” to keep the practice young and team members sharp and on their toes.
It is often said that “There is no ‘I’ in Team” – a phrase used to highlight the notion that in many of life’s endeavors; it takes a collective commitment to achieve the greatest success. I would argue that there is an “I” in team – the focus on keeping it “INTACT.” For me and my practice, this is what sets us apart from the other providers in our industry and affords our patients with the masterful skill, safety and compassionate care they deserve in helping them realize their goals.
